Dry gins are becoming increasingly popular among bartenders and mixologists. They're a convenient alternative to traditional spirits, especially during summer.

Gin cocktails are one of my favorite drinks. I love them! They're refreshing, tasty, and full of flavor. But finding a good gin cocktail isn't always easy. There are many types of gins out there, but not all of them taste great together. And if you want to buy a gin cocktail, you need to know how to pick a gin.

There are two main categories of gins: London dry and sweet. Each has its own unique characteristics.

London Dry Gins
These are made using juniper berries, coriander seeds, orange peel, angelica root, cardamom pods, or cinnamon sticks. These ingredients lend themselves to a spicy, peppery flavor profile.

Sweet Gins
These tend to use more citrus fruits such as grapefruit and lemon. Citrus fruits add sweetness to the gin while giving it a bit of tartness.

When picking a gin cocktail, try to match the flavors of the drink to the flavors of the gin. For instance, if you're making a martini, choose a gin that tastes similar to vermouth.

A second consideration is the flavor profile of the gin. Most modern gins have a sweeter taste compared to traditional gins. Traditional gins tend to be much drier and less sweet. Some gins are known for their sweetness and are ideal for mixing with tonic water. Other gins, are extremely dry and are perfect for making Manhattans.

Buying a dry gin can be tricky. How do you know which ones are worth the money? What makes a good dry gin?

To answer these questions, here is a checklist of what to look for in a dry gin.
1. Check the label
- Does the label say "dry gin"?
- Does it state the ABV?
- Does it list ingredients?
- Does it mention where it was made?
- Does it indicate if it contains artificial flavors?
- Does it contain sugar?
2. Check the taste
- Does it smell sweet?
- Does it smell fruity?
- Does it have citrus notes?
- Does it taste bitter?
